Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at hfederau@lifttrust.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

There are two locations available, based on the type of session or experience you are looking for:

  • The Motion Flight Simulator: 100 Hangar Line Rd in Winnipeg, across the street from the 17th Wing building.
  • The Static Simulator: 601 Club Rd Unit 100, Saint Andrews (at the St. Andrews Airport, 10 minutes north of Winnipeg).

  • The Motion Flight Simulator is a more advanced and technically demanding simulator used by professional pilots for training. It is recommended for use by adults and children over 14 (the size and complexity of the simulator not suited to younger children).
  • The Static Simulator is a static (non-motion) simulator used by flight school students on a regular basis. The layout and complexity of this simulator makes it suitable for younger children or anyone who is brand-new to flying and would like a more simple introduction.

See above for the recommended ages, and if you have any questions for yourself or your child, please reach out to us here and we will work with you for the best solution.

No, you don’t need previous experience with flying an airplane. 1:1 instructor support will be offered for the entirety of the session. Willingness to learn and being open to receive instructions is encouraged.

You can book a session through the LiftTrust website here. Sessions will be booked based on availability and we will work within your preferences to the best of our ability.

Head here to review pricing and book a session. The minimum session duration is one hour, and more time can be added in one-hour increments at discounted rates.

While gift cards are not available, you can book and pay for a session to gift someone else. Once you book a session  here, you will be emailed with a code that can be used by anyone to use toward a session.

Yes, all bookings with both the Motion Flight Simulator and the Static Simulator will include 1:1 instructor support and guidance for the duration of the session.

  • The Motion Flight Simulator: this simulator has 3 seats and space is limited, so one additional person can attend (two people total).
  • The Static Simulator: this simulator has 3 seats and is in a larger space, so five people total can attend, with 2 in the simulator and 2 outside the simulator.

  • The Motion Flight Simulator has more accessibility challenges. It is located on the second floor, only accessible by stairs, and the confined cockpit layout might be a challenge to persons that need special accessibility requirements.
  • The Static Simulator is more accessible, but also requires the person to get in and out of the cockpit.

  • The Motion Flight Simulator is a more confined space that could feel claustrophobic for those persons with challenges in this area.
  • The Static Simulator is more open and won’t feel as enclosed.

As mentioned above, one of the simulators is mounted on a motion platform while the other is static on the floor.

The software and hardware used in these simulators are true-to-life equipment. It is used by many flight schools around the world and provides very realistic and professional flight dynamics and airplane behaviours. The static flight simulator has been certified by Transport Canada while the motion flight simulator has been fine-tuned by professional pilots and both are used to train pilots on a regular basis.

Because these are used by professional pilots, the sessions concentrate on takeoff and landings, as well as maneuvering the airplane in the air. The sessions are aimed at educating the person on how to properly fly an airplane. Some additional scenarios will be available to provide more challenges, like bad weather, emergencies due to failures, etc. There are no guns or rockets that can be fired and no bombs that can be dropped.

In general no, given the limited space and because these simulators are located at a fixed location, they can’t be rented for special group events. However, for the Static Simulator, a special group event can be organized based on expectations and requirements, which we can discuss with you. No food catering will be available.

To log your hours in a certified simulator, like The Static Simulator at St. Andrews, you need to have a certified instructor conduct the training session. You can practice your instrument knowledge, takeoff and landings, procedures, etc, but you cannot log those hours without a certified instructor present.

Yes, in fact, that is what the simulators are used for by the pilots on a regular basis. You can practice published procedures, IFR conditions, emergency situations, etc.

Yes:

  • The Motion Flight Simulator has the G1000 Nxi so you can practice all sorts of IFR procedures and navigation.
  • The Static Flight Simulator panel offers two G5’s, one for attitude and one for HSI. It also has two G430’s with up to date published procedures and can simulate IMC weather.

Both simulators are a realistic copy of a twin engine GA airplane. The static simulator is modelled after a Piper Seminole PA44 cockpit, while the motion flight simulator is realistically modelled after a King Air 200 cockpit (with G1000 equipment).
